The 15th Annual Needham Virtual Security, Networking, & Communications Conference

The 15th Annual Needham Virtual Security, Networking, & Communications Conference and part of Needham’s Virtual Tech Week (Nov 16-18) was a one day event covering a wide range of names in the sector. The event included numerous Fireside Chats with key companies in the Sector ranging from Akamai and Arista to Varonis and Viavi. Discussions were held to address the adoption of Kubernetes, the shift to Zero Trust Security and Cloud Direct as the world shifts away from the legacy perimeter defense models. AI/ML and automation are also critical points of discussion as response needs to be in seconds not the hours, days and months of traditional approaches. As Kubernetes drives triple digit growth, we are seeing the intersection of Micro-Service based applications at the edge collide with 5G edge, fiber access, CDNs, and serverless driving change in the optical arena, networking world and wireless markets. The conference had representation across the entire IT stack from the optical to the application layer and from core Data Cloud Titan Data Centers to Edge Compute at the distributed edge and 5G RAN to 5G Access. Globally, closing the digital divide in broadband services and the displacement of Huawei mark big catalysts in spending and share shifts. Permanent changes in user behavior are afoot as applications and user experiences move to center stage with video conferencing, distributed workforce, and the digital enterprise driving new requirements. This conference consisted of a mixture of fireside chats, corporate presentations, presentations on recently introduced products and platforms, and 1×1 meetings.
