Rich Haerle

Rich Haerle joined Needham & Co in November 2021, where he is currently Head of Healthcare Equity Capital Markets. Prior to his current role, he served as a Managing Director and Head of Healthcare Specialty Sales at Needham where he spent a majority of his time interacting and fostering relationships with institutional healthcare investors. Rich has over 20 years of financial experience, and previously worked at Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank in Healthcare Specialty Sales. He also spent over three years at a publicly traded biotech company as VP of Investor Relations and Corporate Strategy, where he was instrumental in expanding the company’s shareholder base. Rich began his career at Pfizer in 1997 and participated in the launch of multiple products in various therapeutic areas with a focus on CNS (Depression, Schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s Disease), Infectious Disease, and Pain/Inflammation. He holds three degrees from UCLA, including a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Master of Public Health in Healthcare Policy and Management, and a Master of Business Administration.

Joe Stokes joined Needham & Company in 2018. After starting his career in the Firm’s Equity Capital Markets department, Joe transitioned to Investment Banking in 2019. He currently advises both public and private Healthcare companies on a broad range of equity financing and M&A advisory solutions. Throughout his career, Joe has executed more than 150 transactions, including IPOs, follow-ons, convertible debt offerings, private placements, and buy-side and sell-side advisory. Joe graduated from the Tulane University Freeman School of Business with a BSM in Finance and additional degrees in Mathematics and Legal Studies.

Matt Wagner joined Needham & Company in 2017 as a member of Healthcare Investment Banking Group. Since joining Needham, he has advised companies across a wide range of corporate finance and strategic matters, with a focus on capital raising transactions for public and private life science companies. Over the last decade, Matt has executed more than 120 capital raises for life science companies, several of which were realized in a lead bookrunner role. Additionally, he has completed M&A transactions as the lead advisor for buy-side, sell-side and reverse merger transactions in the healthcare sector. In 2014, Matt began his career with the Private Equity and Venture Capital Group at OrbiMed Advisors in New York. Matt holds a BS in biochemistry from Denison University.

Ami Fadia joined Needham and Company in May 2021 covering Biotechnology with a focus on targeted oncology and neuroscience. Prior to joining Needham, Ami spent four years as a Managing Director and Senior Analyst at SVB Leerink and previous to that spent six years at UBS where she most recently held the position of Senior Analyst. Ami also spent time working in industry as Head of Strategy & Operations at Sandoz where she was responsible for building a high performing team responsible for strategic planning, sales force strategy, training, project management, budgeting, and business development. Ami began her career in consulting working at KPMG and then McKinsey & Company in their healthcare practice. Ami holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, her Bachelor’s of Commerce from the Shri Ram College, Delhi University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Gil Blum, Ph.D.

Gil Blum, Ph.D., joined Needham & Company’s Biotech research team in August 2017. Gil joined Needham from Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft, New York oldest law firm where he was a Scientific Advisor in intellectual property law and prosecution. Prior to Cadwalader, Gil held a postdoctoral fellowship at the Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, developing early drug candidates. Gil holds a Doctoral degree in Chemical Biology from Cornell University and a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Tel-Aviv University.

Carolyn Horn joined Needham & Company in 2015 and is the Co-Head of Needham’s Healthcare Investment Banking Group. With a focus on emerging growth companies in the biotech and medtech sectors, Carolyn advises on both public and private financings including IPOs, follow-on offerings, convertible debt, and private placements. Prior to her current role at Needham, Carolyn was Head of Healthcare Equity Capital Markets, where she led the origination and execution of all life sciences equities transactions at the firm. Carolyn has more than 15 years of experience working with life sciences companies and providing investment banking and capital markets advisory services. Prior to joining Needham, Carolyn was a Healthcare Sector Specialist in Institutional Equity Sales at JMP Securities. Earlier in her career, she was part of the Emerging Companies group at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) in Washington DC. Carolyn received her B.A. in Biology and International Studies, with a premed concentration, from Washington University in St. Louis.
